Six Steps You'll Go Through When You Get Treatment From A Walk-In Clinic

Posted on

In many situations, going into a walk-in clinic is the best way to seek treatment for a health issue you're experiencing. If you've never been to a walk-in clinic before, you might not be aware of what the procedure is for getting treatment at this type of health care facility.

The following are six steps you'll go through when you get treatment from a walk-in clinic

Determine if a walk-in clinic is the right place to go for treatment

The first thing to do is make sure that a walk-in clinic will be able to treat you. Walk-in clinics can provide treatment in certain scenarios, but they are not the same as an emergency room. If you are experiencing a life-threatening or severe injury, you should go to an emergency room.

However, if you are experiencing a less severe injury such as a mild sprain, earache, severe cold, or burn, a walk-in clinic will be able to treat you.

Find a walk-in clinic in your area

The next step would be to find a walk-in clinic in your area. You can check online for clinics that are conveniently located near your home. You can also contact your doctor's office and ask them for recommendations on a walk-in clinic you can go to.

Sign in at the clinic and wait to be seen

You'll then go into the walk-in clinic. You don't have to make an appointment to go to a walk-in clinic. You can simply go in and sign in with the receptionist.

When you sign in, you'll be asked for your health insurance coverage information. You'll want to get the costs of your walk-in clinic treatment covered by your health insurance if you are insured. It's therefore important to remember to bring your insurance card along with you to the walk-in clinic.

Go through an examination and consultation with a health care practitioner

You'll then go into an examination room to be looked at by a health care practitioner. You'll explain what's wrong and any necessary tests will be performed.

Be given your treatment and fill any prescription if needed

For walk-in clinic treatment, the most typical type of treatment will be a prescription medication you'll need to take. If necessary, you will be given a prescription that you can fill at your local pharmacy.

Carry out your treatment at home and go in for a follow-up appointment if necessary

If you've been prescribed medication, you'll take your medication at home and hopefully quickly get better. In some cases, you might need to go back into the walk-in clinic for a follow-up appointment.
